FIRST Robotics Competition
What is FRC?
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an exciting, high-school level robotics program where students design, build, and compete with large, complex robots. Combining engineering, coding, and teamwork, FRC challenges students to solve real-world problems through innovation and creativity.
Each season, teams receive a new game challenge and have six weeks to build a robot that can complete specific tasks. Competitions are fast-paced and intense, featuring alliance-based matches that emphasize collaboration as well as competition.
What Do Students Do in FRC Robotics?
In FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), students act as engineers, programmers, and strategists, working together to build and compete with a complex robot.
During the season, students:
- Design and build a robot using advanced tools and materials.
- Program and test the robot’s autonomous and driver-controlled functions.
- Develop strategies and assign team roles for competitions.
- Collaborate to solve problems and prepare presentations.
- Compete in district, state, and national events, forming alliances and showcasing their skills.
Who can join FRC?
Students from across the Gull Lake School Community are invited to participate in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) through our program. Eligible students include those enrolled in:
- Gull Lake Community Schools
- Gull Lake Virtual Partnership
- Gull Lake Homeschool Partnership
- Current high school does not have FRC Team
No prior experience with robotics is required — just a passion for learning, problem-solving, and teamwork!
Season Schedule:
The high school robotics season runs year round. They take new members anytime before the December 1st. The competition season takes place January-April.
